March Scholarship Deadlines
Jordan Education Foundation Scholarships
Turn Around Student Scholarships. Our most prominent scholarship is the Turn-Around Student Scholarship. Each year the Jordan Education Foundation awards a $2,000 scholarship to a high school senior from each of the six high schools in Jordan School District. Recipients are chosen by their principal, teachers and school counselors.
Criteria for the scholarship is not based solely on grades, but rather on the student's ability to overcome great odds. Each student has experienced a period of tough academic, economic and/or personal circumstances. They have chosen to turn their life around and continue their education, but have little or no chance in obtaining any other financial assistance for higher education.
These scholarships are contributed by businesses, institutions and individuals within the community who believe in second chances and want to link this passion with possibilities. These awards are presented at an annual awards banquet each spring. Student must have Principal approval.

AFSA National High School Essay Contest
The AFSA High School Essay Contest is an outreach initiative of the American Foreign Service Association. Established in 1999, the annual contest encourages students to think critically about a topic of global significance and the key role diplomacy plays in connecting people and ideas.
This year's contest is about how the United States has many tools to advance and defend its foreign policy and national security interest around the world - from diplomatic approaches pursued by members of the Foreign Service to the range of options available to the US Military. In countries affected by or vulnerable to violent conflict, peacebuilding tools are important additions to the National Security toolkit. In such complex environments, cooperation across agencies and approaches is challenging, but it can also blend knowledge and skills in ways that strengthen the overall effort to establish a lasting peace. On the other hand, lack of coordination can lead to duplication of effort, inefficient use of limited resources and unintended consequences. The 2018 winning essayist will receive a $2,500 cash prize, an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to meet the Secretary of State, and full tuition for a Semester at Sea voyage (once the student is enrolled at an accredited university). The runner-up will win a full scholarship to participate in the International Diplomacy program of the National Student Leadership Conference.
Eligibility: Must be a U.S. Citizen. "High school" refers to grades 9-12. Students whose parents are in the American Foreign Service are not eligible.
Must write a 1000-1250 word essay. For the topic, go to: www.afsa.org/afsa-national-high-school-essay-contest-topic
